BMT is proud to be a founding member of the South West Regional Defence and Security Cluster (SWRDSC). The SWRDSC is the first pan-Defence and Security Cluster in the UK. It forms a collaboration led by industry and academia with the support of government and its ministerial departments such as the MOD and its innovation directorate, the Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA).
The aim of the cluster is to raise the profile of regional Defence and Security capability to stimulate greater sector knowledge, business, economic growth, and productivity across the South West region.
The South West is home to many innovative businesses and the cluster aims to strengthen investment and partnerships to help build capabilities and attract and compete for talent. Its purpose is to enable the regional Defence and Security sector to collaborate, overcome barriers to entry and help supply chains to complete and realise new technologies.
Innovation is the common thread that runs through BMT. Our key focus is always to address our customers’ most challenging problems with innovative solutions and so membership of the SWRDSC means we can support greater innovation in the wider South West region. A major activity for the cluster will be to pilot the MOD’s new innovation operating model to improve commercialisation and exploitation of funded innovation.
“Innovation is critical in our rapidly changing world. Collaborating with our regional partners through the new South West Regional Defence and Security Cluster will help us meet our customers’ needs with ever more effective solutions”. James Campbell, DAS UK Lead Innovation Catalyst.
The SWRDSC’s launch event will be held on 4 November 2020 and will inform any potential members throughout the South West of the aims of the cluster and the opportunities that it presents.
